Miami Shopping
So now that you have stuffed yourselves on great Miami food, indulge in some incredible shopping. I couldn’t hit all of the stores I wanted to, but here are a few that you will enjoy.
1.) En Avance – This store is in the Design District and by far the best I went to in Miami in my opinion. The owner, Karen, could not be nicer. She was so helpful as we spent hours trying different things on. We had a blast! She carries great lines like By Malene Birger, Yigal Azrouel, Rebel Jeans, Irene Neuwirth and so many more. Check it out!
2.) The Webster Miami – This very cool art deco mansion right on Collins Avenue was transformed into a well edited mens and women’s store with lines like Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, and pieces from my favorite patterns by Suno. They also have a bar and cocktail lounge on the ground floor. Worth stopping in for a drink, but don’t expect the staff to do much for you other than look pretty.
3.) Boheme – This is a fun store that reminds me of Calypso a bit. They have a nice selection of sandals, clutches, beach cover ups and other goodies that make you want to pack for an exotic trip. Definitely worth a look on West Avenue.
4.) Alchemist – This Lincoln Road shop is up five flights in of all things, a parking garage. You definitely have to seek it out to find it, but it’s worth it if for no other reason to see the views of Miami from 5 flights up in a glass walled boutique. I definitely can’t afford anything in the store. Very high price points, but they also have a sister store with less expensive lines on Lincoln. I would check out both.
Miami Food
I was in Miami last week for a very fun girls trip with my mom and sister. It was a special time for the three of us. I loved every minute of it, and I really loved Miami. This week, I want to spotlight some of my favorite places to eat, drink, stay and of course shop.
I’m beginning with the food part of the trip, because I really feel like I ate my way through Miami. The food was amazing! We began at Michy’s. This is James Beard Award winner Michelle Bernstein’s restaurant where the decor is so Miami chic and the food is some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Those floral print vinal chairs I would love to have in my house one day. Definitely order the bread pudding for dessert. It’s dynamo.
Next, we went to Michael’s Genuine Food. It’s in the Design District and so fun. Great for people watching and you definitely want to sit outside in the courtyard with the trees around you and in the middle of the cool stores. They are all about local grown sustainable food and their menu changes daily. I love that. My sea bass was to die for and let’s just say the pie in a jar came in a close second to the first night’s dessert.
Our third spot was the tapas bar, Pub Belly. Another great choice and in a fun little neighborhood in South Beach. They have a new Italian chef who is infusing some of his best known dishes like the meatballs which were yummy. But my favorite item on the menu was the paella. Delish! Go early to get a seat. Otherwise, you will wait a while.
Prime 112 was definitely home to a delicious bone-in filet and get ready for this…fried oreos! But it was more about the scene than it was anything else. Be prepared to wait over an hour for a table, even if you have a reservation like we did, but you won’t be disappointed. All of the tight, barely skimming your ass dresses and groups of bachelors will be pouring into this place. It’s a fun spot to get a look at the typical Miami crowd.
Okay so if you aren’t full yet, like we were, try Hakasan. It was our last stop. It’s Japanese done right and it’s inside the Fontaineblue hotel. Definitely try the dumplings and the sea bass. They were yummy. And the fried rice was good too. My only disappointment was that the restaurant is right on the water but didn’t really have views. The decor was cool but it was really dark inside. Seemed a little odd.
Next time you head down south for a little heat and some R&R, make sure to look into some of these.
A Very Short Weekend Reading: Yves Saint Laurent
Here’s another inspiring quote, this time from legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent:
